USC Faculty and Partners Complete ECOVIP Replication Workshop on Entrepreneurship
Cebu City, Philippines — The University of San Carlos successfully conducted a two-day Replication Workshop on Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship on December 8–9, 2023, at the SBE Banquet Hall, Downtown Campus. This capacity-building activity is part of the Erasmus+ ECOVIP Project.The workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ skills in entrepreneurship with a focus on sustainable tourism. Led by Prof. Ethel D. Catamco of the Department of Business Administration and Prof. Demetrio S. Anticuando of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism, sessions covered key topics such as:
- Sustainability in the Tourism Industry
- Employability and Entrepreneurship
- Generating Sustainable Business Ideas
- Market Analysis and the Base Business Creation Model (BBCM)
- Business Pitching and Launching a Tour Guide Business
Ms. Brenette L. Abrenica, Director of External Relations and Internationalization and USC ECOVIP Project Head, opened the program by underscoring the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable development.
A total of 29 participants — including faculty, students, and industry partners from the Departments of Hospitality and Tourism and Business Administration, as well as representatives from local tourism organizations — actively engaged in group discussions, ideation exercises, and business pitching sessions.
Participants gave overwhelmingly positive feedback, praising the workshop’s practical approach, interactive format, and relevance to real-world entrepreneurial challenges in tourism. Many highlighted how the sessions equipped them with valuable tools for curriculum enhancement and student development.
This successful replication workshop reinforces the University of San Carlos’ dedication to building faculty and student capacity in entrepreneurship and sustainability — key pillars in producing graduates ready to contribute to responsible tourism and regional development.
